My story with DentaMarla and a conversation with the clinic team
I am afraid of dentists. Even after successful treatment and many years with a smile I am happy with, finding a new dentist became a long search. Especially after moving to another country, where you have to work out all over again whom you can trust, sometimes while also overcoming a language barrier.
That was the situation I was in when I discovered DentaMarla. Two of my crowns had broken, several attempts to find help had left me disappointed, and I felt less and less willing to sit in a dental chair again. Today, I return here feeling at ease. I want to explain what changed and ask the clinic the questions I would have liked answered when I first began looking.
The interview passages are based on written answers from DentaMarla and have been edited for publication. The personal experiences and impressions in this story are my own.
The smile I wanted to keep
I began thinking about having my teeth restored around fifteen years ago. They were wearing down, and I knew that sooner or later I would need extensive work. I was living in Germany at the time and spent a long time looking for a dentist I could trust with such a change.
In 2017, I found a professor whose approach felt right to me. The first thing that put me at ease was the atmosphere of his practice. As soon as I walked in, I felt more relaxed: the familiar tension I usually experienced in medical settings was barely there. For someone who is afraid of dentists, that means a great deal.
I decided to have my smile restored, and the result exceeded my expectations. I still remember the first fitting: how finely the teeth had been made and how evident the dental technician’s craftsmanship was. I continue to receive compliments to this day. Many people have no idea how much dental work lies behind this smile.
I have never regretted that decision. Later, however, my dentist passed away. My own circumstances changed too: I moved to Turkey and no longer had the option of going back to the person who had created it all.
So when two crowns broke so badly that they needed replacing, it was particularly important to find someone who would treat the existing work with care. I wanted to keep the smile I felt comfortable with.
Why I once got out of the chair and left
There are many dental clinics in Antalya. Everywhere you look, there are attractive photographs and confident promises. But during an appointment I wanted to feel something quite simple: that the dentist saw a person in front of them and was willing to explain what was happening.
At one clinic, things moved too quickly for me. I was told they could help and was almost immediately seated in the dental chair. When I asked what they intended to do, the discussion turned to removing the tooth roots. As far as I remember, no X-rays had been taken at that point, nor had the history of my earlier treatment been reviewed.
I could not understand why this was necessary. Both the prospect of the procedure and how little I understood about what was happening made me uneasy. I said I needed to think, got up and left. I cannot judge the medical reasons for that proposal today. But I remember exactly how I felt: I was not ready to go ahead.
Another attempt to find a dentist left me with a similar feeling. There was also the language barrier. In the end, I spent several more months without those crowns. After a few unsettling encounters, I even began to think I would never find the right dentist here. I now understand how strongly those experiences had shaped my expectations.
Meeting Dr. Pınar Uçar
I first visited DentaMarla in September 2024. An acquaintance who had come to Antalya on holiday and had a crown replaced there recommended the clinic. His recommendation gave me a reason to try again.
From arranging the appointment to my first visit, communication felt calm from the outset. People were friendly and attentive. Almost as soon as I walked into the clinic, I felt that I wanted to stay. It reminded me of the relief I had felt years earlier in Germany.
Dr. Pınar Uçar became my dentist. I remember her welcoming smile, her kind expression and the way she carried out that first examination. She noticed the previous work, asked where I had had it done and spoke very warmly about her German colleague. As I remember it, she said she had seen work of that quality only a few times.
That moment changed a great deal for me. I heard respect for a result that mattered deeply to me. It became easier to explain what I wanted: to replace the missing crowns so that they would fit into my existing smile.
According to her biography on the clinic website, Pınar Uçar graduated from the Faculty of Dentistry at Süleyman Demirel University in 2013, opened her own practice in 2014 and joined DentaMarla in 2024. [1] For me, our relationship began with a human connection; I learned more about her professional background later.
She said the crowns could be replaced and that the clinic worked with the material needed. I had a thorough examination and X-rays. Following that assessment, there was no need to remove the roots in my case. I agreed to begin treatment the same day.
Previously, even the thought of starting treatment so quickly had made me anxious. Here, I felt calm enough to agree. For me, the difference lay in talking with the dentist and understanding what was happening.
Time to talk, and the right to think things over
While preparing this article, I wanted to ask the team about what I had felt at that first appointment. The clinic describes itself on its website as a boutique clinic. I was interested in what that meant to them.
Me: What does a boutique clinic mean to you?
DentaMarla: We mean the time we set aside for each patient’s treatment. We manage patient numbers so that we can give everyone the attention they need and avoid working under tight time pressure.
DentaMarla was founded in 2021 by dentists Mehmet Coşkun and Burak Çağrı Daşdemir. The clinic started with two dental chairs; according to the team’s answers, it now has six, and the founders continue to treat patients themselves. The website states that Burak Çağrı Daşdemir graduated from Süleyman Demirel University in 2013, while Mehmet Coşkun graduated from the Faculty of Dentistry at M. Gorky Donetsk National Medical University in 2012. [1]
Me: Can someone come for a consultation and then take time to think without starting treatment?
DentaMarla: After the consultation, the patient has time to decide whether to begin immediately or wait a little longer. We do not put pressure on them.
Me: How do you work with people who are afraid of dentists?
DentaMarla: We meet patients with anxiety and fear in our everyday work. In our experience, these feelings gradually ease after a few visits. An important part of communication is giving people information from the beginning about their treatment, its benefits and its possible disadvantages.
That gradual process feels familiar to me. My fear did not disappear because of one reassuring promise. It eased after the examination, the conversation, the first procedure and how I felt afterwards. I even came up with a personal description for my dentist: a kind tooth fairy. That is exactly how her care felt to me.
Two crowns that became part of my smile again
On the first day, the remaining tooth structures were prepared for the crowns, and temporary crowns were fitted. The gaps that had been there for months were finally covered. In my experience, everything felt straightforward, comfortable and painless.
After around six or seven days, my permanent all-ceramic crowns were ready. The fine craftsmanship, colour and shape mattered particularly to me: two new pieces had to blend into work that had been done in Germany. After the fitting and final adjustments, they felt as though they had been in place for a long time.
Me: How do you take a person’s wishes about the appearance of their teeth into account?
DentaMarla: We choose the shape and colour together with the patient. If they find it difficult to decide, the dentists and team offer recommendations. Every plan is individual. At the same time, a correct bite and the precise fit of the crowns are essential for the dentist.
Me: What purpose do temporary crowns serve apart from covering the wait for the permanent ones?
DentaMarla: Once temporary crowns have been fitted, the patient can assess how they feel and let us know if anything is uncomfortable. That feedback helps us with the next stages of the work.
In my case, that willingness to listen was especially important. I could describe how my teeth felt, and the dentist kept adjusting the work until I was happy with the result. A little over two years have passed since that first visit in September 2024, and I am still glad I decided to look for help again.
What lies behind the result a patient sees
I want to talk about materials and technology through results I can understand for myself. I see the colour, feel the shape and notice whether I am comfortable with my new crowns. Behind that, of course, is the work of the dentist and dental technician.
The DentaMarla website lists zirconia and Emax among its crown materials, and Straumann and Astra Tech among its implant brands. [2] This is the clinic’s general range. My own treatment involved replacing two crowns with all-ceramic crowns.
The laboratory section describes CAD/CAM: first, the planned restoration is modelled in computer software, and the data is then sent to a machine for manufacture. [3] As a patient, I understand that quite simply: before the finished crown exists, there is a digital model the specialists can work on. I still assess the final result during the fitting together with my dentist.
Me: What have digital technologies changed in your work?
DentaMarla: They help us work faster and see possible inaccuracies on screen while the work is still being prepared. That gives us time to make corrections before it is finished.
DentaMarla offers other treatments too. Its website lists veneers, crowns, implants, fillings and professional dental cleaning. [4] In its answers, the team highlights aesthetic and surgical dentistry as well as implantology. According to the clinic, it does not offer paediatric dentistry or orthodontics; when needed, it recommends colleagues in those fields.
Me: Are there situations in which you decline the treatment someone wants?
DentaMarla: Yes. For example, a person with gum disease may want a Hollywood smile within a short time. The underlying problem needs to be addressed first. Treating the gums can take several months. In that situation, we would not immediately place crowns on all the teeth.
That answer matters to me. When you value existing work and are afraid of unnecessary procedures, you want to know that a dentist is willing to discuss limitations and timescales. Sometimes trust begins with an explanation of why a decision should wait.
If you are still planning your trip
I looked for a dentist after moving to Turkey. But many BellBoy.Run readers are considering travelling specifically for treatment. In that case, the usual anxiety comes with flight bookings, scheduling and the question of whether you will be able to explain your situation in another language. I asked the clinic to describe how that first contact works.
Me: Can someone discuss treatment initially from their own country?
DentaMarla: Yes. Contact often begins long before the first face-to-face appointment. Correspondence may last from a few days to several months. For a preliminary plan, we use information about general health, X-rays and photographs of the mouth. Complex cases, including those involving the bite, require an in-person examination.
Me: Who answers the enquiry and helps the patient communicate with the dentist?
DentaMarla: A coordinator answers enquiries. Every plan prepared remotely is reviewed and approved by a dentist. The clinic provides consultations directly in Turkish and Russian; for other languages, we involve coordinators and interpreters. The coordinator helps organise the process from the consultation to the patient’s departure.
The team also stated that Russian-, English- and Turkish-speaking staff are involved in supporting patients. Having experienced a language barrier at other appointments, being able to ask questions calmly and receive answers I understand means a great deal to me.
Me: Can someone receive a plan with costs and a timescale in advance?
DentaMarla: The patient can receive a written plan describing the procedures, duration and cost. We usually provide it in Russian, Turkish, English or German. During a remote consultation, we explain that changes may be needed after an in-person examination and X-rays.
Me: How long does a patient need to stay in Antalya?
DentaMarla: That depends on the case and the number of appointments. We often work on the basis of around five days, but implant treatment requires repeat visits. Once we have the flight details, the coordinator draws up the schedule. Transfers and accommodation may be offered under certain conditions or discussed separately.
My two crowns took around a week. That timescale belongs to my personal story. For your own trip, you should receive a schedule tailored to your specific treatment. In its answers, the DentaMarla team also stresses that treatment and its quality must come first, although it tries to leave patients time to explore Antalya as well.
Knowing whom you can return to
One of the experiences that stayed with me most happened later. I noticed that one of my old crowns, fitted back in Germany, was beginning to loosen. I went to Pınar Uçar. The crown was removed, both it and the underlying tooth were cleaned, and it was secured again.
In total, I received help twice without being charged, including this occasion, even though I was willing to pay. I am describing this as a personal experience. What stayed with me was how naturally the dentist took on work another professional had done many years earlier.
After that, I really felt I had found my place. If something worries me, I know whom to contact. I can come for a check-up and speak with someone who already knows my smile and understands why I want to preserve it.
Me: How does contact continue after treatment is completed?
DentaMarla: Patients can contact us on the clinic’s phone number and receive the information they need. For patients from abroad, we prepare a digital record of the work carried out once treatment is complete. The dentist gives advice on care and oral hygiene. After extensive treatment, we invite patients for check-ups. If someone cannot attend at the recommended time, we examine them on their next visit to Antalya.
In my case, that relationship continues today. I try to have my smile checked regularly. Going to the dentist no longer means having to search for an unfamiliar practitioner every time a problem comes up.
Why I wanted to share this story
Later, I recommended DentaMarla to a woman I knew. She had also been treated by the same professor in Germany, moved to Turkey and spent a long time looking for a dentist who could help with a troublesome tooth. According to her account, the problem was resolved after she visited the clinic, and she was very happy. Hearing that from someone with whom I already shared a positive experience of dentistry made me particularly pleased.
For me, a boutique clinic is something you feel in these details: how appointments are arranged and how you are welcomed, how the dentist examines the earlier work, listens to your concerns and keeps adjusting a crown until you are comfortable. That is how I experienced the individual care I can now describe for myself.
That is why I wanted to introduce DentaMarla in BellBoy.Run. When you have spent a long time looking for a dentist and are afraid of finding yourself in another situation you do not understand, you especially value being able to return calmly to someone familiar. Dr. Pınar Uçar gave me that feeling. To me, she remains a kind tooth fairy in human form.
It once took me a long time to decide on a new smile. Then I spent a long time looking for someone I could trust to care for it. Now I have that place in Antalya, and I am happy to return to my dentist.
