Emirates NBD Skywards Infinite: Who Is the Card For?
A practical look at fees, bonus miles, earning categories and Silver status on the Emirates NBD Skywards Infinite card, based on calculation rather than a headline.
“Up to 100,000 Skywards Miles” sounds like a ready-made ticket. But an Emirates NBD Skywards Infinite card begins with three questions: what does entry cost, which purchases genuinely earn enhanced miles, and will you use Silver status after the first year?
In brief: the card can be rational for a UAE resident who regularly flies Emirates or flydubai, pays every statement in full and can meet the bonus conditions without artificial spending. For infrequent travel, everyday low-earning categories or carried debt, the cost can easily exceed the value of the miles.
If your travel is centred more on Marriott stays than Emirates flights, compare it with the Emirates NBD Marriott Bonvoy World Elite card. Its value comes from hotel points, elite-night credits and an annual certificate rather than Skywards Miles and Silver.
If Skywards Miles and Tier Miles still seem like one balance, first read our Emirates Skywards guide. The card earns spendable Skywards Miles and provides Silver; purchases do not become Tier Miles.
What the card costs and who can apply
At the review date, Emirates NBD listed a minimum monthly salary of AED 30,000, a joining fee of AED 3,148.95 and an annual fee of AED 1,575 from the second year. These are separate charges: the first-year cost is not the same as an ordinary renewal.
The bank also requests Emirates ID, a passport copy and evidence of income or business activity. Meeting the published threshold does not guarantee approval; the decision remains subject to bank and credit assessment.
We do not treat a secured-deposit route as standard for this product unless the bank confirms it in writing for the applicant.
How the “up to 100,000 miles” offer is built
The maximum welcome offer has three separate components:
35,000 miles after paying the joining fee;
40,000 miles after spending at least USD 25,000 in the first three statement periods;
25,000 miles after spending at least USD 7,500 on emirates.com or at Emirates sales offices in the UAE during the first twelve statement periods.
Using the bank's reference of USD 1 = AED 3.672, the second threshold is about AED 91,800 and the third about AED 27,540. They are not one combined turnover figure; the final bonus is tied to eligible Emirates purchases.
Before applying, list only purchases that would occur within the deadline even without the card. If a bonus requires an unnecessary ticket, a shifted large payment or higher-than-normal spending, you are already paying for the miles through changed behaviour.
How ordinary spending earns miles
Base rates are quoted per USD 1 equivalent, not per AED 1:
2 miles: Emirates, flydubai, duty free and eligible food-delivery and ride-hailing apps;
1.5 miles: international purchases outside the EU and UK;
0.75 miles: international purchases from EU and UK merchants;
1 mile: ordinary domestic UAE purchases.
“Up to 2 miles per dollar” does not apply to every transaction. Supermarkets, groceries, fast food, insurance and car dealerships earn only 25% of the domestic rate. Fuel, transport, government services, utilities, real estate, education and telecommunications earn 10% of it.
The credit limit does not equal unlimited earning. In one statement period, eligible spending earns miles only up to the lower of the credit limit and AED 100,000. Cash, balance transfers, bank fees and other excluded transactions earn no miles.
An enhanced rate is useful only when the category and volume match your normal behaviour.
Calculate value without inventing a fixed mileage price
A Skywards Mile has no fixed cash value. It depends on the reward, the fees that remain and whether you would otherwise buy that ticket or upgrade with cash.
Use your own conservative estimate:
mileage value = number of miles × your real value per mile.
Add only benefits you will actually use, then subtract the fee, foreign-exchange charges, interest and extra spending undertaken solely for the bonus.
For example, if one mile is genuinely worth AED 0.04 to you, the ordinary domestic rate of one mile per USD 1 produces about 1.09% in value. Covering the AED 1,575 annual fee through ordinary miles alone would require roughly AED 145,000 of eligible domestic spending. At two miles per USD 1, it would require about AED 72,500. This is an illustration, not a promised return; your value may be lower.
For categories earning 25% or 10% of the domestic rate, break-even is much further away. If most of your turnover is utilities, education, fuel or rent, the headline “2 miles” is irrelevant.
Silver status may matter more than the miles
While the card remains active, the cardholder receives Emirates Skywards Silver. Emirates NBD lists access for the cardholder to the Emirates Business Class Lounge in Dubai, bonus Skywards Miles, additional checked baggage and Business Class counter check-in among the benefits. Confirm the conditions for the route and flight before travelling.
Silver has independent value only for someone who actually flies Emirates or flydubai. If your main carriers are different, it may look attractive in a benefits list but do little on your real routes.
Do not combine two lounge programmes as if they were one unconditional benefit. Emirates status access and Visa Airport Companion access operate under separate rules, in different lounges, and may require registration, an eligible flight or other programme conditions.
Should you add Express Miles?
Express Miles adds 50% to eligible earning except Emirates purchases. It costs AED 250 plus 5% VAT per month, or AED 262.50. Continuous use costs AED 3,150 a year; from the second year it replaces the ordinary annual fee rather than being added to it.
Extra earning is capped at 4,000 miles per statement period. Evaluate the subscription by the additional miles, not the phrase “50%”. At an assumed AED 0.04 per mile, even the maximum 4,000 miles are worth AED 160 to you, below the AED 262.50 monthly price.
Your valuation may be higher, but it must be grounded in an actual redemption. Subscribing now in the hope of finding an expensive upgrade one day is a weak strategy.
The main risk is the cost of debt
Miles make sense only when the statement is paid in full. The current bank Key Facts Statement for Skywards Infinite lists an APR of 44.28%; paying only the minimum does not prevent finance charges. One month of interest can erase the value of miles accumulated over a long period.
For foreign transactions, the bank lists its own 1.99% conversion fee on top of the payment network's standard charge, shown in the document as approximately 1.15%. Earning 1.5 miles on an international purchase therefore does not automatically make overseas use worthwhile.
Compare the complete transaction cost: exchange rate, both fees and the value of the miles. Dynamic conversion into AED by a foreign merchant does not guarantee savings either.
Who is more likely to benefit
a UAE resident who meets the bank's criteria and pays every statement in full;
a traveller with regular Emirates or flydubai flights;
someone with already-planned eligible spending for the welcome offer;
a cardholder who uses Silver, baggage and lounge access as practical benefits;
a Skywards member with a specific plan for redeeming miles.
Who is less likely to benefit
someone applying for the maximum bonus without natural spending;
a traveller who rarely uses Emirates or flydubai;
someone whose main expenses earn 10% or 25% of the domestic rate;
a cardholder who carries a balance between months;
someone with no specific use for the miles.
Check before applying
Record the joining fee and renewal fee separately.
Split the welcome offer into its three conditions and check each deadline.
Classify the last three months of spending by the bank's categories.
Calculate miles at the rate per USD, not the maximum advertising number.
Assign your own conservative value to a mile.
Value Silver and lounges only against journeys already planned.
Confirm that every statement will be paid in full.
Reopen the product page, KFS and welcome-offer terms immediately before applying.
The Frequent Traveler rule
Calculate the card without the welcome offer first. If recurring miles and benefits justify renewal, the bonus is useful acceleration. If the card makes no sense without it, you are looking at a short-term promotion rather than a durable tool.
This is an editorial analysis, not financial advice or an offer from the bank. Fees, rates, bonuses, earning categories and applicant requirements may change. Before applying, review the current product page, Key Facts Statement and individual terms supplied by Emirates NBD.
