Florentia Village is near IST and the M11 metro line.
Istanbul has another attraction, this time not in its historic centre or beside the Bosphorus, but near its main international airport.
In September 2026, Florentia Village welcomed its first visitors: a new complex combining a designer outlet, full-price shops, restaurants and places to relax.
It is in İhsaniye, between Istanbul Airport and Göktürk. According to the developer, the drive from the terminal takes around five minutes, although the actual time depends on traffic and where you start.
The news has already circulated on social media with bold claims: “Forget Milan”, “Europe's biggest outlet” and “Discounts up to 70%”.
I would not write off Milan just yet. But Florentia Village does deserve a closer look.
What opened in September 2026?
The first phase includes:
around 65,000 m² of leasable space;
approximately 190 shops;
restaurants, cafés and dining areas;
spaces for walking and relaxing;
designer, premium and mainstream brands.
The project was developed by Türkiye's Kalyon İnşaat with Italy's RDM-Fingen Group, which specialises in designer outlets. Investment totalled EUR 250 million.
The architecture evokes an Italian town: open streets, squares, fountains and Tuscan-style façades. Florentia Village is designed as somewhere to spend a few hours or a whole day, not simply a shopping centre.
Bellboy's advice: treat the recently opened complex as a new attraction whose individual services may still be settling in. Shops, restaurants, transport and other facilities may begin operating gradually.
Which brands have been announced?
Brands mentioned by project representatives and recent Turkish reports include:
Prada Outlet;
Moncler;
Ferragamo;
Ralph Lauren;
Hugo Boss;
Nike.
Reports also describe international and major Turkish brands, varied restaurant formats and new dining concepts.
A little caution is useful. Check whether a particular shop is open, and its hours, before travelling. Management reported that 95% of leases had been completed, while expecting to start with around 70% actual occupancy.
Check the current shop directory before making a special trip for one brand.
Will discounts really reach 70%?
The developers advertise a price advantage of 30% to 70% on international brands.
That does not mean a 70% discount in every window. The final price depends on the shop, collection, season and any additional promotion.
Outlets commonly offer:
previous collections;
limited sizes and colours;
ranges made specifically for outlets;
items with additional seasonal reductions.
I recommend comparing the final price rather than the percentage on the label, especially if you know the regular shop price or can check it online.
Is Florentia Village Europe's biggest outlet?
Not yet.
The first phase has 65,000 m² of leasable space. A second phase is planned to add another 45,000 m², taking the total to 110,000 m², with potential for a substantially larger number of shops.
The developers describe the expanded project as Europe's largest outlet centre and one of the world's largest.
What is operating now is the first phase of a larger development.
Later stages also envisage a five-star hotel and a concert and entertainment venue for up to 20,000 people. It is too early to count those as operational facilities.
Getting there from Istanbul Airport
Florentia Village is near İstanbul Havalimanı, on the European side of the city.
By car or taxi
The organisers suggest around five minutes from the airport on a clear road. Allow extra time to leave the terminal, find the car and deal with possible traffic.
For passengers with suitcases, a taxi or pre-booked transfer is likely to be most convenient.
Show the driver the exact name, Florentia Village Luxury Designer Outlet İstanbul, and check the route in navigation. Construction, service and shopping entrances can be in the same area.
By metro
The complex is near İhsaniye station on M11. According to the project, it is one stop from the airport, with a direct exit intended to provide convenient access.
After the opening, still check:
whether the required station exit is operating;
whether the direct passage into the complex is open;
the current train service;
whether the route is manageable with large luggage.
A new attraction and its transport infrastructure do not always become fully operational at the same time.
From central Istanbul
The developer gives approximately 25 minutes by metro from Gayrettepe. In practice, add time to reach the station, wait, change levels or passages and walk to the shop.
From central neighbourhoods, I would allow substantially more time and avoid scheduling the visit tightly between other commitments.
Could you visit during a long layover?
Florentia Village may interest passengers with a long connection at IST. But “five minutes from the airport” is not enough to plan around.
Allow time for:
passport control and baggage collection;
travel in both directions;
security checks on returning;
possible check-in queues;
outbound passport control;
the walk to the gate inside IST's enormous terminal.
I would consider the outing only with a layover of at least six to eight hours, preferably longer on an international itinerary requiring border formalities. This is an editorial planning guideline, not a guarantee: permission to enter Türkiye, flight deadlines and the day's queues still matter.
With a short connection, staying at the airport is safer. Even travelling between zones within IST can take unexpectedly long.
Can you bring luggage?
Proximity to the airport could make Florentia Village convenient for travellers. Before going, however, check whether the complex offers:
a luggage storage desk;
automatic lockers;
tourist information;
hands-free shopping;
delivery of purchases to a hotel or the airport.
Do not rely on luggage storage until the official conditions are confirmed.
What to know about Tax Free
Foreign travellers may qualify for a partial VAT refund only at shops participating in Tax Free schemes, subject to the applicable eligibility conditions.
Before paying, ask:
whether the shop issues Tax Free paperwork;
the minimum purchase amount;
whether the original passport is required;
where to obtain the documents;
where customs validation takes place;
how the refund will be paid.
Keep receipts and leave purchases unpacked until customs checks if the refund operator's rules require it.
Tax Free is not an extra shop discount, but a separate tax refund process. Operator fees usually mean the amount returned is less than the full VAT amount.
Bellboy's practical plan
For a visit to Florentia Village, I suggest this sequence:
Check opening hours and the current shop list the day before.
Confirm transport and the return route.
Save the complex's name and location on your phone.
Set aside at least three to four hours, excluding travel.
Compare final prices rather than advertised percentage reductions.
Ask about Tax Free before paying.
Do not leave the airport return until the last moment.
Maps, transport information, banking apps and electronic receipts need mobile internet. If you arrive from another country, you can prepare a blueSIM travel eSIM before departure instead of searching for a SIM at the airport. Check phone compatibility, Türkiye coverage and activation rules for the chosen plan. Installing the profile requires an internet connection; use the package according to its instructions after arrival.
Is it worth visiting?
If you enjoy designer outlets, Florentia Village may become one of Istanbul's most interesting new shopping addresses. It looks particularly convenient for travellers using IST, people staying near Göktürk and visitors willing to dedicate part of a day to shopping.
Milan is not cancelled. Istanbul simply has a new route of its own, beginning almost beside the runway.
About the information
The Russian original was checked on 9 October 2026. The opening was confirmed by Türkiye's official investment office and Anadolu. Still verify current hours and the shops you need before travelling.
